Giorgio Tsoukalos, the star of History Channel’s “Ancient Aliens” and publisher of Legendary Times Magazine has partnered with the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus to host a once in a lifetime multi-media spectacle to mark the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar-a precessional event that happens only once every 25,600 years.
The Cosmic Convergence Festival is an ALL DAY affair that will take us to the end of the Mayan calendar countdown and beyond. It will take place in New Orleans at the Sugar Mill on Friday, December 21st, 2012.The festival features an all-star lineup of musicians, DJs and performers including electronic psy-rockers Ghostland Observatory, along with many of the best acts the Crescent City has to offer including: Alex McMurray and the Interstellar All-Stars, Quintron and Miss Pussycat, Rotary Downs, James Singleton, Sun Domingo and the Hot 8 Brass Band among many others. Specialty food trucks and a host of other vendors will showcase the culinary and cultural delights of New Orleans.
Giorgio and the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus intend to “Avert the 2012 Mayan Apocalypse by throwing a party so EPIC that it will appease and impress the Space Gods, convincing them that humanity is not only worth sparing, but that we are totally awesome. Our goal is to rock SO HARD that Extraterrestrials land a spacecraft at the party and join us for the festivities.”
These far-out sentiments are also backed up by some down-to-earth generosity. Tsoukalos and the Krewe have partnered with the actor who plays Chewbacca himself, Peter Mayhew, to help those less fortunate. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Peter Mayhew Foundation and their programs with Children’s Hospitals, Wounded Warrior Centers and special needs and at-risk children.
